Well, technically but would you believe that personally I'm not that strict on spacing....
Number Plate Recognition won't care about spacing so I guess that's why police are maybe less hot on it than maybe they used to be. But, I guess it might be added to the list of offences if you're caught for something else.
Its the deliberate changing the font face and using studs to deceive that is more of a problem.
