This weeks job was to replace a split hose on the engine side of the MAF.

I'd read on various threads that this was a bit fiddly. How hard could it be? I mean its right there near the top of the engine!
With my usual overconfidence on matters i know nothing about, i set about swopping over the new part........

Many hours, skinned knuckles and choice swear words that i'm sure could have been heard the other side of the valley later and..... its done.... i think.

In the end, i had to remove the airbox / MAF section to give my gorilla hands room to do up the jubilee clips closest to the engine.

The engine used to pause when hitting the accelerator and was accompanied by a suction noise. Both symptoms appear to have gone.... result!

Next up :

Replace rear shocks and top mounts (parts already bought)

Fit new strut brace (reliably informed that its on its way from Ebay land)

Remove saggy bumper and replace rivets

None of these jobs i would have even remotely thought of tackling without the how to guides on this luvverly site.

Cheers

Darrell

Daz, that inlet pipe on the side of the engine has caused swearing by the hardiest of driveway tinkerers. It's not the easiest to get at those jubilee clips.

How badly was yours split? (The pipe, not your knuckles)

Gaz, it was about a third of the way around.

The small tube in the new one just doesn't look like its fitted correctly, its kinked a bit. There's still plenty of space for air to get through the tube, but no matter what way i attached and reattached it i couldn't get it sitting properly. Its airtight and for now that's all that matters.

Hi john, it was just a visual check as mine was quite badly split. I was prompted to check it when i heard a suction noise when pressing the accelerator. From other pieces ive read, high emissions test results and irregular idling can point to this problem.

You're welcome John. By the way it was your thread that prompted me to go for the same strut brace, looks well on your car:thumbsup:
