Speedometer needle

We have a 1997 Z3 and the speedometer needle periodically bounces and sometimes it doesn’t work at all. Will changing the speed sensor in the differential fix the problem? Thanks in advance James.

It could be the sensor but worth checking the connection first. Try disconnecting and checking the state of the connection.
