Does anyone know if the rear speakers are the same as the door speakers on the z4 with regards to mounts and size. I'm just after some for the doors ya see...

This may or may not help, but this is where the door speaker sits in the door card, I meant to take some more pics and dimensions at the time.

The odd thing is that there are 3 points, so I'm not sure how you fit a non BMW speaker in there. As I say, may help or not!

Yeah that helps loads @GazHyde and that's why folks charge a fortune for aftermarket ones because of the 3 mounting points. I've found a set of front and rears on eBay and they're all the same numbers on the back so it looks like they're the same.

Next thing is how best to remove the door card and is the wiring already in place

So from memory, there is no wiring in place. The door car removal is pretty straight forwards though, remove the plastic cover on the pull handle - lever it gently from the top or bottom and pull (the plastic tangs are relatively flimsy though). You can then access the screws that hold the door handle on and the panel to the door frame.

Theres a small cover in the door pull with another screw behind it if I recall correctly (again, be careful). You can then put something around the bottom of the door card to lever each push clip off. Work your way around and then the card should lift up and off.

Found a pair of E85 for speakers on eBay for £19 posted... Winner, they were delivered this morning and one of the mounts is broken, bad times

It wouldn't be too bad if it was around the mount hole but it the rim of the speaker cone

Sad of Wakefield

Got some pics, will be interesting to see what they are like... Shame one is broken!
Yeah I'll get some. They're identical to the rears as it happens. I've got some uber glue which looks to have sorted it. I'd have a go at fitting them now but it's thrusting it down

Well I've installed the additional front speakers (same as the rears) in my Z4 and what a difference. Now the sound fills the front rather than feeling it's all behind you and it's much clearer. Dead easy to do too... I spliced the speaker wire into the existing tweeter wires and went from there... Just the job
