I think that the spark plug sockets in some tool sets have such rubber liners to protect the plugs. They can get stuck on the plug unnoticed when pulling the socket off - happened to me once.

+1 to what Paul said about the liner coming out of your (or someone else's) spark plug socket. I bought Iridium plugs when I redid mine, they don't seem to be as hard on the coils as the platinum ones. NGK Part# 6418, Gap is 0.032

Just put ngk twin tip plugs in and she doesn’t idle so well now.

Thought the rubber sheath was to stop it having a lot of other little spark plugs....;)
