Finally come to the conclusion that if I did get a puncture then the spare would be no good to man nor beast !
So 15minutes under the car and its gone ! Even had a little time this morning for a little clean and a spin.

I love my Z !

Hi Woody , I dont think i'd want to take the chance of not carrying a spare. if you shred a tyre your knackered

If I needed to put the spare on then my thinking was where the hell would I put the punctured wheel ? It's not going to go in the space the spare was in so what's the point. Can of gunk and a small compressor and of course my AA card.

Hard top, you can remove it complete without having to cut anything as it all unscrews so if you want to put it back at a later date you can. Just remember to plug the holes with the original rubber seals to prevent water getting into the boot from under the car. Not that my car is allowed out in the rain !!

I was thinking of doing the same. I've got a bit of a rattle coming from the rear OS and I suspect it's the spare wheel cage. I'll remove it and go for a spin next weekend and see if there's any improvement.

I am hesitant to remove it though, about 6 months ago I suffered a shredded tyre about 100 miles from home and I used the spare to get back. Luckily I was on my own so I stuck the regular wheel on the passenger seat.

I might just take the chance though, I've got brand new Contact Sport 5s on now and my old tyres were years old so I think there's less chance of damage.

I guess if I get a shredded tyre then its a call to my son or the AA whoever is closest !

If the spare was the same size as the wheels I would have kept it for sure as your right its much quicker to replace yourself but my spare is 16" and the wheels on the car 19" so dumping it was a no brainer for me.

Interesting thread, was just wondering about removing it this morning, I think my mind has been made up
i ran my e46 with no spare for 18 months.
As was running 19s on it
