Something I’ve been mulling over for a while. With two people in the car a manky 20 year old space saver seems pointless.
Today a mate lent me an angle grinder (to keep the boot floor plates). Job done.

Your attachment is incorrectly labeled, it should be xxxx.jpg, not xxx.jpeg. it cannot be opened with the jpg misspelled.

I’ve yet to unleash the space saver in my new zed. I dread to think what condition it’s in.

I took the spare out but haven't taken the cage out. Not sure that I will, its very light and I can always put it back should I sell the car someday.

I've been running with just the cage for a while but decided it looked ugly.

I use my cage and plastic to carry my tyre repair kit and other bits and bobs, more room in the boot

This has been an ongoing debate that comes up from time to time .
The general answer you end up with is that it really depends on what you do with your zed.
If you spin around locally then you probably won't miss it .
But if you travel that further then you may wish you didn't removed it .
I can think of 2 or 3 members off the top of my head that would have been stuck without a space saver one of which was proper in the middle of nowhere 80 miles from our hotel which was already in the middle of nowhere on the Scottish run a couple of years ago.

One of the reasons for deleting the spacesaver is because there is nowhere to put the old damaged wheel. I thought about this and now carry a microfibre towel and a set of Thule luggage straps, with these you can strap the old wheel on top of the bootlid and carry on.

The other thing which I am sure many others do is to take the spacesaver out at least once a year and clean it up. It may be 20+ years old but it has been kept in a dark place not exposed to sunlight and should still be fit for purpose.

Would definately not be without mine having previously had to use it to repair a blowout that would not have been resolved by the slime sealant or rat tail kit I have. I also just like the fact I can carry a spare in a car that is so small - my E89 and even my family saloon doesn't provide that ability. I've also used it to help recover a mate who had a puncture in his E85.

My spare got me 190 miles from the middle of nowhere to home. No phone signal.

Being a coupe owner (which has no spare wheel - instead you get the repair foam kit) the FIRST thing I got was a genuine BMW space saver. Doesn't go under the car like the roadster alas, but one of the benefits of the bigger boot was that I was able to fashion a false boot floor and keep the space saver under it

This stuff helped me out a couple of times in the past, the only problem being that the chaps at the garage hate it as thay have to clean the inside of the car tire out before repair and refitting to the wheel.
