Hi all,

As is usual on all internet forums, we have been found by spammers! Generally all forums are in some form going to be picked on at some stage.

We have made a couple of changes which will help alleviate this, but not fully eradicate it.

User registration has been tightened up in that when someone registers, they will receive a verification email with a link in it. If they don't click the link, they can't login to the forum. James has also tightened the sites Firewall rules.

On top of this, obviously James and I will delete it as we see it. Please feel free to PM GazHyde or Board if you think we haven't seen it.

On my other forum, I switched on registration for the first time in months - within 24 hours I had 38 spammers trying to register. Registration has been switched off again :(

If you see a Spam Post, click the little exclamation button (bottom rhs of post) to report it to the team -select the spam option from the reason pulldown :-B

NeRo has suggested some spam blocking mechanisms too which I'm looking into (thanks Neil).

I have blocked anyone from the Russian federation accessing the site at the moment as I don't think we have a great demand there right now. I can block on a country basis so if we get more spam from countries that are probably not going to access the site then we can block them too.

If anyone wants to know how to do it for your own sites then let me know.

Cheers
James
