Help guys, I'm pulling my hair out, whats left of it anyway, I have read a number of threads and it appears that some zeds have amps and some don't and some have rear speakers and some don't, I feel that my system needs a lift, now I might be able to paint but I hate car electrics, so what would be the easiest way to upgrade it,
Thanks

@zedonist : your thread is here.

All the speakers can be upgraded with aftermarket versions. If you have a sub youll see it between the rear seats, if not you have a cubby hole.

All Z3s have rear speakers behind the seats. Pre facelift are 3 inch post are 4

If you have an amp it's in the boot above the cd changer

I have a cubby hole so no sub, not sure about an amp though, would it be hidden under the carpet above the cd player, will I get a decent sound by just replacing the speakers and head unit

It's actually the same as replacing the HU and speakers, except you are running new speaker wires, I'm sure the Zed shed Midlands @t-tony would lend a hand, and I would be happy to chip in...do it in a day if all the kit is available.

i think you would. it wont be perfect but it will be a massive upgrade. Do you have rear speakers?

speaker wiring etc is dead easy once you have done it once. i hate electrics but stereo stuff isnt that daunting once you get into it

I did my M speakers and the 2.8 before that. Uprated speakers with a new head unit made it clearer but lacked the top end sound with the roof down (existing wiring). Adding an amp nailed it (using new wires) :p

Yes you can and yes you do, don't buy coax speakers buy components, the Hertz kit in my thread are fantastic items, they were recommended to me by an AV guru on the VW forum, and I also have them in my T5 they are that good.

Great thanks, appreciate the advice, what about the rear speakers regarding the tweeters, or do you have 4 tweeters, sorry to sound so stupid, I have spent a lifetime running away from this stuff.

You just need 2 tweeters up front to lift the sound up from your feet, so as high up and far forward as possible, so sitting in the corners of the dash is best.

I've just completed my HU upgrade a couple weeks ago, including new speakers, amp and wires.

Interior stripped out and new wires installed. HU sounds amazing. Zedonist was a fantastic source of knowledge and advice.

Still never found a factory fitted amp
