Looking for advice if anyone has tried it on their car and if it works, I'm thinking about buying some of that sticky back padding and putting some inside the doors and round the the inner arches and the complete inner boot area, but if it's only a slight change I think I will leave it, yeah I know it's a convertible and it's never going to sound like rolls Royce but just want to dampen the road noise and running gear etc :)

IMO, it would be a waste of time, but others may disagree, after all its a roadster

Best sound proofing kit for any car is a gag for her indoors, or some ear plugs

If I'm being honest I'm getting the clunk sound from the prop when changing gear from 2nd to 3rd the centre bearing is fine and quibo is fine but it does wine when reversing and also the drivers rear wheel when jacked up will turn an inch either way with the handbrake on, that's what I'm trying to drown out until I can find the fix maybe there is slack in the shaft or the half shafts I just don't know at the moment

Don't fix the symptoms pal, cure the fault, start a thread with the problems and I'm sure youll get to the bottom of it

the drivers rear wheel when jacked up will turn an inch either way with the handbrake on,
Just means the parking brake shoes are well out of adjustment on that side, allowing them to shift inside the drum before locking the wheel.

Yeah I know your right I'm just stressed out because it's not in my face problem I don't know if it's the gear box the clutch or the diff,.....Thanks Tony my simple mind didn't Evan think that but now you say that it's freaking obvious, would you suggest adjusting the shoes or buy new ones, I have had them off to change the discs and they looked ok after a clean up

I think diff whine is pretty common mate, I get it but just put up with it

I would try re-adjusting them Trev. Best way , IMHO, is to remove the calliper, or push the piston back so there is no chance for the service brake to affect the disc at all. Then I would adjust the shoes right up until they lock the disc/drum. Gently tap around the drum to centralise the shoes then see if you can get any more adjustment. Once you're fully adjusted back off the adjuster by 3-4 "clicks" and see if the disc spins free. Try the parking brake to see that it locks the disc/drum, then release to make sure there's no binding. Repeat for the other side.

Yeah I've heard a lot of people say just live with it, it's almost like the norm it sounds strange but I'm getting to like that sound when reversing, but the clunking sound is doing my head in, I can rotate the prop shaft a quarter inch both ways when on the ramps I don't know if that's normal, thanks Tony good advice I'm on it this week my problem is listening to to many people on Google witch got me thinking it was the half shafts fault, I've just been beating myself up thinking how could it be the half shafts fault, that's a weight off the shoulders :)

That's not to say there could not be free play somewhere in the drive train Trev but it's best to eliminate the obvious things first. Hope it proves to help mate. The clunking sound when reversing could well be the Diff. mounting bush given up the ghost, again an easy job to do.

Yeah I hear your thoughts mate but the clunking sound is only when changing gear from second to third from under the car it's like it's coming from the diff, reverse is fine apart from the low sound whine noise

Do you have an idea of the best way of checking the diff mountings because that is the only thing I'm not sure about how to check, is it just a case of using a crow bar to check movement

I would still give it the once over mate. If there's a little "backlash" in the Diff. and that mounting bush is worn it will exaggerate it.

If you have the means (two trolley jacks) I would jack both sides up to let the Diff. hang down into the bush. If it's knackered, and if it's the original it most likely will be ,you will see it quite clearly. If you only have one jack, put a piece of rubber or wood on the jack and jack under the Diff. and place a stand (blocks) under one side jacking point then move the jack to the other side jacking point to achieve the same effect.
