Re: Someone got a bargain

Cat D in 2001 according to the ad, which would explain the price I guess!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280838070778

BMW Z3 M

Blue with brand new blue hood . Black leather interior with heated leather electric seats. Aircon, Cruise Control, Electric Hood . Genuine AC schnitzer 19" alloys ,schnitzer Handbrake lever and pedals .

64300 miles(Mileage confirmed correct by BMW through service history) with 12 months MOT and Tax till end of MAY .

Just had a full service including rear brake pads , brake fluid and Engine Oil replacement , Fuel Filter , Oil Filter etc

Was cat D way back in 2001 , rear passenger side damage .As you can imagine the car was only 1 year old when repaired so it is perfect and has been on the road 11 years since

Part service history with every MOT during my 5 year ownership

Lady owner , Genuine reason for sale .

Viewing can be arranged

GRAB A BARGAIN !!

Code:
A Category C or D write-off is one that insurers consider unecomonical to repair but one that could, given enough time in the workshop, be repaired and returned to the road.

the problem with cat D is that insurers consider it worthless, so if you had another accident in it it would be an instant write off. Even a chip in the windscreen could write it off. Some insurers will refuse to insure a cat d or will demand a full engeneers write-up like the RAC car check thing.

Way back then the car must have been worth around 30k
i am surprised the insurance didnt shell out and get it repaired
I know now they pay on percentage around 75% of the value of car now
But 30k in value and damage 22k to repair,
Sounds like a scam

Either that or it suffered some serious damage to be beyond economical repair, which makes it hard to understand why it was only a cat D

Re: Someone got a bargain

Cat D will drop its worth significantly, as someone said the crash happened a while back when the value was far more...it must have been quite a shunt...

Re: Someone got a bargain

if it was a rear side impact and the subframe, rear arms, bushes, wheel, panels (Inner / outer incl boot) etc all needed replacing you would have been looking at least £10k in parts, put against that jigging, labour paintwork etc to BMW M standards, it is quite easily a CAT D. You have to remember when they they do an insurance estimate they quote for everything possibly linked to the accident.

I would have bought this, it has obviously been repaired correctly so no worries, and i am sure the person that got it will get his £6k back when he sells it, so no-one loses.
