I am having difficulties with its operation. Mostly it just won't close. After many tries it usualy does in the end. Occasionally it won't open.
Once the motor starts it works faultlessley. I think its probably to do with microswitchs.
Does any one know how to strip it down to get to them ? Photos would help.
Has anyone disconnected the power operation so that you can do it manually?
Thanks

I don't think you will have to disconnect power to use the manual mode. Try pulling the red finger loop in the upper left trunk area. I disconnected the battery and had to have the computer code codes reset. Expensive at the BMW stealership.

I think @Donkeyoaty kit was built on the Z3 platform so different from a Z4.

At least you offered some advice, many do not, and you were not to know the 2 cars had differing systems either. The E85 Z4 has it's own personal roof issues as you know. Also Pete @gookah recently highlighted some issues with Mrs. G's Z4 roof operation, which, will likely become more apparent as these cars get older.

I think the roof can be used manually but it has to be disconnected in the boot...I need to check but someone else might know for definite ahead of my checking...I think it’s in the manual with the car what you can do.

You can disconnect the hydraulic ram on the Z3. It does sound as though the OP may have "Micro-switch" trouble though.

On the Z3 just unscrew the T bar screw on the pump will allow you to use the roof manually.
Great thanks. This weather the top has to come down! I will look into why the electrics are not working, but at least I can do it manually, which isn't a problem on a small soft top like this. On my old Triumph Spitfire it was a piece of cake doing it manually. Why add complication and weight to a car!

I turned the "T bar" on the pump to disable it. Thanks for the tip. When I put it down it goes down almost on its own, just a slight push and it goes right down.
Putting it up again you have to pull it quite firmly, but no problem.
