Soft Top Replacement for my 1999 Z3 2.0l

I'm looking to replace my soft top as my rear 'window' is opaque and I had to break most of it off just to see/drive safely, the hood itself has also seen better days and I don't think the stitching will stand up to a replacement window alone (at least not in a way that will last)

Soft Top Shop came highly recommended in 2015 but their prices have almost doubled to £940 since 2015 and a 500-mile round trip from Manchester to Croydon seems equally undesirable.

This might be a silly question but do they replace just the fabric or do they replace the frame also?

I've not got my hopes up for good news but if anyone has any recent experience replacing their soft top they'd like to share I'd appreciate it.

If you don't mind a drive to Swansea, Jack Smith Trimmers does a full roof and window for about £400 or less. He has a long waiting list which is a good indicator, as are the many satisfied customers.

Funny, I just had my top replaced by Soft Top in Croydon, but the price I paid was £595.00.

I just had one fitted from jack smiths a couple of weeks ago, its excellent quality. He's arguably the last guy making them from scratch now and doing good trade selling his handmade tops to most companies. Atm he is currently taking bookings for june.

I think you will be happy with Jack Smith. I got my hood replaced in October last year and he did a fabulous job.

I was going to do mine with Jack Smith, but the earliest date they had free was the 22 June and I couldn't wait that far. Shame!

I’ve had a couple of roofs done in Swansea & an excellent job he’s done , sometimes he’ll put your name on a cancellation list so you may get it done sooner..

Jack does have a long waiting list I booked mine at the beginning of April 2022 and the first date he had was mid October 2022. Which is when he did ours. He is definitely worth the wait. Jack is a very principled guy he was telling me when we were there that he has people all the time offering to pay double if he will do there car quicker and he says “No, you take your turn like everyone else” he knows if he did let people queue jump people would start going elsewhere
