My nephew has got a BMW soft top that is kept out side but needs to clean it and remove green mould.
Can anyone recommend the best cleaning products please

Someone told me to use canvas tent cleaner :p
I don't know how good it is as we haven't used it :)
But next year when the brighter weather gets here we're going to give it a go :)
I'll keep a eye on this thread as our hood needs doing too ;)

There was a post a few days ago by @dave griffiths on which roof cleaning and proofing was discussed. It was titled 'New'. Don't know how to link to it directly - sorry. It's something I need to look into myself as my poor Zed now sits outside 24/7.

Hi
Yes i used a method passed onto me via this forum, in short it was to use autoglyn clean and protect. I bought it from halfords for about £22!
You wet your roof, spray on the cleaner being careful not to get to much on the paint work but it never effected mine. I used a stiff hand brush to agitate all over and extra cleaner on the tuff bits. Wash off thoroughly with water then bingo! The green stuff came out in abundance so i did it three times. Then spray on proof and wipe in with the sponge provided. Dry and drive! Really effective and really easy. Some one did suggest baby shampoo but not tried that yet.

Autoglym is top stuff. Comes in a two pack with cleaning thing. You can get it cheaper off amazon than the shops.

Hi,
Did mine over the summer, used Renovo as this was recommended by a boating pal who has used them all.
Very pleased with the results.
Three part system.
1. Cleaner & mould remover.
2. Dye to taste.
3. Proofer/sealer, applied twice.

Simply outstanding - beads in style!

Hi,
I bought this kit:-
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Renovo-Canv...ie=UTF8&qid=1449943173&sr=1-2&keywords=Renovo

BUT, had to buy an additional 500ml of the proofer locally!
(Easily enough cleaner & dye for a couple of applications.)
There was about enough proofer in the kit (500ml) to do the top 1 & 1/2 times so I plan to do it again in the Spring, making a total of 3 applications!
You could buy them separately and this might be better if you plan to do the top the recommended 2-3 applications of proofer.
Really required in Scotland!!!

I get three cleans and re proofs out of a kit, perhaps not so much if the hood was really grufty to start with but you should once it's clean.:) If you need to re-colour the fabric the Renovo is the one to look at.

Tony.

THANKS every one for your input I will pass all the info on.
Went out for a run down to a pub in Devon for lunch in my nephews 5 series estate on a 12 plate auto, what a car auto every thing it just purred. I had hoped that he would have come to see me in his 4Ltr Msport coupe but I was dissapointed

Having tried Autoglym,I found Meguiars Cabriolet cleaner and Weather Proofer better. Just personnel choice. It did foam up a bit more token more washing off , but after proofing gave a really good job.

Does anyone know how to order up some sun, or at least some dry weather to allow some roof cleaning and proofing to be done? Not seen any when I've been free for weeks now. My roof is constantly sopping wet :(

When we had our rear window replaced a few years back the guy steam cleaned the roof and looked really good. Once a year now wash it with autoglym keeps it looking pretty good. Sits out all year but have recently got a half cover so always dry now, well as long as I put it back on when it's dry.

i just use diluted fairy liquid and a good brush (nail brush) you can also use milton on any green stuff growing. i once tried a steam cleaner which did work but brought alot of salt to the surface, i went over it a few times thinking surly all the salt is out now but no it just kept coming through. now its just soap (washing up liquid) and a brush.
