After watching @Rha thread on his induction shield/kit fit i looked in to sorting an induction kit for mine.
I looked and i suppose would have loved a Simota kit but couldn't justify the cost, or the skinflint in me said i could make one =))
Well brought the first filter locally but it just wasn't heafty enough for the 2.8 and it added nothing infact it lost power.
Not detered i took it back and got a bigger filter This gave the lost top end back so was happy.
Now comes the inspiration bit i wanted to create a ram air system and liked the shape of the Simota so looked to see what i could mod to fit so i brought this....... Bin inspiration from Roy....

Right kind of shape like a squashed bucket oval if you like.
The first one i cut short to get it to fit then with card mock it up the exact fit i wanted before cutting out the final shape .
Used a jigsaw and a fine blade as the plastic was a tad brittle being hit with anything too rough.
Well ended up with this....20160113_153544.jpg

Now this fitted well and as it was blue thought it may look ok but as it is a bin it needed fettling in my eyes to remove the bin look.
Had had it fitted but removed it as the exhaust was standard and it did add a bit but felt to me a little boy racer ish as it was all noise up front and quiet at the back.
So the exhaust was done cat back before christmas a nice deep tone and the customery pop and burble on let off.

So day off today i thought id have another revisit and with my newly aquired wrapping skills i wrapped the enclosure with carbon wrap to get the look i wanted.
To say it was an a**e to do is an understatement but i got to this....

So back to the car with it to see if it was more in keeping with the engine bay and heres the result.....

It certainly makes a difference now 3rd and 4th are supurb but not lost any get up and go in top end motorway speed.
Tickover has dropped and exhaust note has filled out further. Going to wrap the top rad hose to keep the heat away and will recold air feed as well.
It does pick up the airfeed that comes in on the light but another will not hurt.
Quite pleased lost its bin look and gave me a nice shape to boot:)

Certainly looks a professional effort, pleased that it's improved the output in the way you had hoped.

Its part of the enjoyment of owning a car ,my old neighbour used to watch me change cars frequently. They all arrived a little tired or standard and he would watch out of his front room window until the day he'd pop over and say now its Ant car, its got your mark all over it.
Have never failed to sell a car to the first person to look but then they leave me wanting nothing in most cases a buyers dream....

 got it from B&M Homestores 1.99 they had a few that fitted the plan but chose this as it was plain in finish where as the others had embossed writing etc that i would have struggled to lose.

Wow!!!!!!!! Puts my efforts to shame in looks but what about that extra feed from the kidney grill and insulating inside to keep the hot air at bay. I'll come up and help you do the kidney grill (stolen air feed) mod if you want, should help even more. You really are an insperation Ant. Saw your first effort and thought then how good it looked but now with the wrap looks professional. Here's a couple of pics in case your interested.

Now you see it.

Now you don't, doesn't ruin the looks on the front but does steal some air without affecting rad.

Think Ant might have enough room to insulate on the inside @bessieblue, I did on mine on the outside and haven't yet done the inside but think it will help because the plastic became quite hot after a good run befor the insulation.
image.jpeg
Pic showing insulation on outside only. Engine runs smoother and picks up better all through the Rev range, MPG when driven steady has risen on longer runs.

Looks great Ant and above all, with the carbon wrap, reminds me of Darth Vader... Which is trendy nowadays!
