Guys

I was at Gaydon today and in the conversation we were having BMWCC GB have to make decision in the next week or so if the Snetterton event is going to go ahead. if we want the track day stuff to continue we need to start booking in advance rather than at the last possible moment.

I may be talking to people who already know about what goes on if so I apologise but for those who do not know I am going to put up some general posts on both this and the Silverstone threads.

First the track days do not need a modified car. As long as the car will pass a MOT on the day that you go on track you will probably be OK. I did break a spring but I drove home the 380 miles without a problem.

My first track day was Cadwell park and my second was Croft on both of them I was so nervous before but they were both well run and at no time was I out of touch with what I needed to do. Nick makes sure they have special session for the novices where the track day specialists are off the track so that we are a little more relaxed about the guys catching us up.

What you do is when you start into a corner that corner is yours till you are out of it, then you indicate and the let the faster cars go before you get to the next corner.

Some people have said that they need to do work on there car before they sign up for a track day! if you would feel comfortable to get in your car and drive to a show say 200 miles away then that should mean that your car is fine for the track. I know the track day guys do special stuff BUT (and it is a big but) they are doing something very different to us as they know the lines etc. the first thing I found out was that everything I thought I knew was not relevant. Now that nicely leads me onto that there are Instructors there that we get to book some time with and that is included in the price.

All the guys, even the track day specialists, want us along because they know they need the numbers for the days to stay available. they are all so welcoming as well I have made some real friends much like at Zroadster.org except that the track days is very much a face to face things with the Guys and Gals.

Now, mentioning Gals. On the BMWCCGB trackday postings for my first track day I said that I was worried and A lady called Nick posted that I should not worry as she was worried as well on her first track day and a few years later she won the track day star award! As It turns out Nick is a great character and really know what she wants so has just got rid of a 1M as she didn't like it and the number of people that are saying they would have bought it off her is surprising but she now has a M3 Dakar special.

I could go on for ages but come on lets get a group from here going I would love to meet up at the hotel the night before with a load of my friends and combine both my group of friends.

If you have question please post and if I do not know I will get answers for you either post your question or PM me.

I am hoping to get a group coming from Devon (both members and non members) but will co-ordinate a group from here as well if you want. please let me know. I hope to confirm numbers from Devon by the end of this week or maybe next week if I can't get it done this week.

I forgot to say about insurance because people think it is a real problem. It s not. What happens is not as complicated as people think!

First the track covers damage you cause to the track so you do not have to worry!

Second if you spin and cause damage (which has not happened at a BMWCCGB meet, from what I have been told) then you are responsible for your car and if you hot someone they are responsible for theirs.

Third there is a statement that track day insurance is hard to get, it is not. If you contact competition cars you can get the day covered to whatever the value is for your car. In my case I asked for a quote for black for the track and I said value was £3000 the quote I got was £75 for the day. In fact I have not bothered and the other guys that I have spoken to at the events don't bother either. (one point of interest though, is that I contacted Competition cars recently because of "tweaking" the car. My insurance has gone DOWN by £70 AND I can modify it in any way I like as long as I do not increase the BHP above 250 HP. oh and if I do I will just have too pay a higher premium and I have 8000 miles a year on my policy for Blue and 6000 miles for Black for the track. Oh and I get 5 track days a year thrown in for free I just have to tell then 2 working days before the track day!

I hope this helps guys and gals
