Last night I went to open my bonnet and it only popped one side before the handle went free. I changed the cables a few years ago because they were stiff but the plastic part of catch holding the cable broke.

I managed to pull the central cable with a wire pocked through the grill and release the other side.

Thats my luck used up for the year.

Well done releasing the bonnet, I know some who have had a right job getting the bonnet up, more so when the wire snaps beside the catch.

I’m one of the people who have had the problem!
Easier to get at on my conversion by lying on the ground and pulling on the central cable.

When I changed my cables, I replaced the catches as well.

I wasn’t so lucky this summer. Driver side cable snapped and entire latch was seized. Pulled offside kidney grille off and smashed the latch up with a hammer and chisel, which released the bonnet.

Replaced cables and catches. Also had to buy a new grille (£90, dealer) because the retaining tabs didn’t survive removal.
