Leading on from @miller1098 and how far you can push your Zed had me thinking.

Who would be up for a skid pan day. Thruxton down here in Hampshire have a day where you can try your own car on the skid pan. The cost for tuition and the pan for 1 hour is £99 but I think to be honest it might save your life if you ever had to use the skills you will be taught. Who would be up for it in the spring next year ?

I am hoping that a day could be arranged and the price could be lowered too. Maybe a BBQ whilst the others are waiting ? or a pub evening meal after the day ? You will have to type the link in as its not working direct.

Regards

Hi Paul

Following our chat earlier today, please find details about the Skid Pan experience in your own car below and a link to the skid pan on the website.

In a safe and controlled environment we will help you develop the skills needed to correct and control a sliding car, a situation that you may encounter on the public roads. Not only is this great fun, but more importantly a hugely worthwhile investment in your own and your passengers? safety.

Using your own car, we?ll help you understand and feel how the electronic safety systems, fitted as standard to most cars, will help in adverse conditions, but also how to control a sliding car if the systems can?t save you. Pure driver skill! We feel this will give you the best preparation for anything the roads and weather may throw at you!

·This skid pan experience is a one hour session on the skid pan driving your own car.

·Your experience will start with a 10 minute briefing and short demonstration. The remaining 50 minutes is all driving.

·Your skid pan instructor will be outside giving detailed advice, instruction and encouragement via a two way radio.

DRIVING CONTENT

·Straight line braking tests, with and without ABS [anti lock braking system]

·Straight line slalom, weight transfer and direction change controlling under and oversteer.

·Prolonged control of under and oversteer on 45m diameter circle.

·Exercises will be experienced with all electronic stability systems switched on for first run.

·Time trial to end session.

Depending on dates I'd be interested from both a safety and fun perspective. I live in Milton Keynes so easily driveable for a day out.....

@mktommo that was my thinking too. Safety and also the fun. Would be good to learn how to get out of trouble if heavens forbid we ever find ourselves in it.

What about tyres- is there some enterprising individual selling and fitting part worns on the day?
Bit of a problem transporting spare tyres in the Z...unless I get a sheep rack..

I'm interested for a skid pan day.

My idea was for learning how to react if the worse was to ever happen. I did my first rear end out with ebbee a few months ago.. Spilt fuel on a roundabout and some rain.. Away went the rear end, great fun. The car behind though ended up in the roundabout. I was lucky. So you never know what the roads might throw at you.

I will speak to Ben at Thruxton and see about some dates for Spring next year ok.

Most drift days have a tyre van that usually charge around £5 for replacement part worns fitted plus £2.50 disposal of your dead tyres
