Side view mirror problems

Newly bought 2001 z3 2.5i roadster.

Forgive my ignorance but it would appear that the passenger side mirror adjusts backwards.

Driver side moves correctly but passenger side moves to the right when you push left and up when you push down (and vice versa). I assume someone installed a replacement motor upside down, but want to make sure this is the likely problem before i try to fix. Anybody seen this before? Should flipping the motor upside down fix this?

I had mine apart a couple weeks ago. I had the impression it could go in upside down and, because of that, it has the word TOP molded into the plastic to make sure it goes the right way.

If it was upside down then it the horizontal movement would, as you say, be wrong.

But the vertical movement would be wrong as well.

Is your vertical up/down correct?

Both were incorrect. Actually as an update to this I popped the glass off today and the motor was upside down. I didn't see the word top molded into it but flipping it over has resolved the problem.

Interestingly, with it upside down the heater wires barely reached the glass. It must have taken a lot of work to get it in wrong

Thanks
