Should rocker arms be replaced along with the lifters? Loud ticking ahhhh!

So she's back on the road now which is great but the engine was quite ticky under acceleration.

Took the valve gear out and the lifters were done. Caked in deposits and seized. Got some new ones which I fitted last night but now I have a really irritating loud tick all the time instead of the slight one I had before be under acceleration.

Got the cam cover off again, turned the engine by hand but no tick. The only thing I can think is the rockers.

There's no obvious reason for it and it's driving me up the wall.

Any ideas?

Now it's taken to really rough running.

A bit late now, but did you put some flush through it before you changed the lifters? If the rockers are worn you should be able to see the wear at the point they contact with the lifters.

No I didn't, didn't cross my mind because it's a rebuilt engine.
It's quite a nasty click/tap now.

ps. Was there obviously oil at the top end of the engine in and around the valve gear when you removed the rocker cover?

Yes, definitely oil up there.
Soaked the new lifters in oil before fitting and coated the cam in assembly lube when I refitted it.

Just been searching the interweb and I have the same sound exactly as the infamous N52 tick videos.
