My restoration project has taken somewhat of a major delay!!

I was working on this car as a personal project, I literally haven't had the time to do anything on it other than replacing the engine!

There is still a rather large outstanding list of work needed to get it up to scratch:

Full Spray
Drivers Door Card
Drivers Seat Re Trim or Replace
New Rear Bumper Stop to be installed
Lights to be re installed
Handbrake shoes replaced
New Rear Window to be stitched in
Replacement drivers wing mirror needed

Should I sell as is or not?

Hello mate. kind of depends on what you want, time available and cash really. one thing is for sure, if you keep it and crack off that list your Zed will be the nuts. Short term pain (relative) for long term gain. There's always time, it's just making g it available. Cash and the "can I be arsed factor" are a tad differant of course.

Me, I'd keep it and finish it off :)

I'm guessing your project isn't going quick enough for you so now your thinking of letting it go.

As to sell or not.
Why not keep her and enjoy next year's summer

Don't give up keep going
You will be really chuffed when finished :)

Keep going :p
Don't sell :)
you will be pleased you didn't in the long run :)
It will be worth it too ;)

Thanks guys, its not the cost to be honest as we can do everything here for parts only cost it's literally the time at the moment. I must admit sourcing a door card and a seat is near to impossible unless someone sits on ebay ALL day searching!! Or we pay circa 500 for an complete interior!!

But whats it worth as it sits? £500? I don't know, we didn't give anything for it it came to us as non runner!

I think unless you've got an ///M or ///M Coupe you're never going to recoup the money you put in. I think most on here have put in well over what their Zed is worth. Could be worth more in parts if you want rid? That said, it owes you nothing. Intetesting dilemma.

owes me £350 as it sits, got to be worth £500 in parts with a decent engine in it too i recon. Seeing as I don't have the time to fix her I certainly don't have the time to break her up! I think I'll stick it on eBay at the weekend

I'm afraid it comes down to money for me unless you have a particular emotional attachment or ambition of doing the work yourself, eg to learn.

If purchase price (zero in your case) plus parts spent already plus parts to complete is more than it's worth then why do it? Especially when there's your time to factor in too.

There's tons of Z3s for sale out there and you could cut straight to the chase and buy a nice one.

If you're doing it only for resale and to make a few quid then I suspect you could turn around 2 or 3 cars for a better profit for the time and effort it would take to do that one.

I've seen it from several angles. I ploughed unjustifiable sums into restoring my brother's car he's had from new. But there was an emotional attachment there. I've broken other cars that were bought with possible restoration in mind but which were BER'd (Beyond Economical Repair). And I'm currently doing a project that I'll make £300 or £400 profit out of even with a replacement engine.

No no attachment, at the time, we didn't have lots of work on so it was a kind of when we were quiet job which was fun. We've just now got bigger things to do and make more money on.

You may find it difficult to sell for half decent money with a replacement engine and the condition the car is in, according to your thread. Best to keep and upgrade over the medium term - then enjoy, or sell with confidence.
