Been eyeing off this beauty. Unfortunately the wife said BUY IT, I was kind of hoping she would shoot me down so now I am really taking a close look at her.

MY2009, E89 35i, auto, black on white, 41,000klm, AUD$37,000, sold by a dealer.

Is there any pitfalls I need to know about these cars? I am a Z3 guy for the last 4 years or so but I love the foldable hard top, the look, I want a smoother ride, I like auto, I LOVE the color black on white.

What are these cars like to work on DIY? BTW Z3 I consider easy.
Any known issues?
Tire wear issues [I do a LOT of Km half of it at night]
The Klm is quite low, the price seems about right, your thoughts?

Thanks ladies and gents, appreciate the input.

I can’t help with the pitfalls of owning one but would be my choice model or Alpina in Softop if I was going to have a Z4. I would go and have a test drive first though just to make sure it’s what you want. Black and white look great but from experience it’s a bi*** to keep clean I never will have a black car again;)

Hey Coops,I also love the folding tintop. Shirl has a VW Eos, although it's an oil burner 2.0 DSG Auto it's a gorgeous car and the roof mechanism is a joy to watch (where do you start to design something like that ?) It's black with white leather interior and attracts lots of nice comments where ever she goes. Go for it mate. @EnthuZiaZT and @Macca and @Rob T any input

Tony.

Both you and your wife should "Try it before you buy it". A friend who had previously had Z3s was encouraged by his wife to buy a E89 rather than another "old unreliable Z3". He bought the E89 and his wife didn't like the driving position with such a long bonnet. He sold it 6 weeks later and lost £3k on the deal. Lesson learnt!!

Excellent advice thanks very much. I have also been chatting with another guy on FB who is a BMW mechanic. He advises that the Z3 is unreliable and a nightmare to work on compared to the Z4. This is encouraging as I find the Z3 rather easy as a DIY YouTube certified mechanic! :)

Go for it Tony best thing I have bought. So quiet inside with the tin top up and looks so good with the roof down. You can take mine for a spin if you like to see if you like it but mine is the manual and 2.3i so will not be quite as quick but is enough for me.
