Shortened mirror mount - Alu welding

Someone has shortened the mirror arm and welded it back together to make it sit higher.

Would be a nice mod that would sell I reckon, will go nicely with the Mini Convertible mirror mod - I love my mini mirro shape and feel but the size is bit big and moving it up would help.
Even for a standard mirror shifting it upwards will clear the windscreen nicely.

Only thing is we need someone in the U.K. to make them. Getting then from the US will get expensive with £8 handling fee and customs charges, postage etc. I don't think the chap in the US is selling them actually.

What's the benefit - sight line? The mod looks as if it has been squeezed into the roof area! Sorry for the negative - I think a smaller mirror would fit the bill better.

the problem with the mount is there is a wire on later zeds that runs through the mounting ball and into the mirror, this kind of derails swapping either the mount or/and the mirror. some people have removed the circuit board from inside the mirror and moved it into the light cavity (think its for the immobilizer) this would make the mount swap a viable option.
if a shorter mount is needed i could prob sort it quite easily (i just used a smaller mirror).


just noticed the one in the pic DOES have the hole for the wires.

I believe all he has done is shorten it and weld it back together so if there is a hole or no hole it remains the same just shorter.

It does look squashed up again the roof but from sitting in the car and looking it it would look fine for me, I'm sure there were some cars that had mirrors mounted like this or I may be thinking of the old Mercs that had a little sunblocker that would close the gap between the top of the mirror and the roof so the sun didn't get you.

Take your mirror off one day (not by the ball but twist it at the window mount, it just clicks off) and then you will see how much the mirror can interfere with vision in that area. I never thought much until I had mine off.

A smaller mirror and this mount would be my ideal actually.
