Anyone been around northern France. Thinking around Lille, Amiens or Rouen for a short weekend trip, somewhere traditional and picturesque with great food of course!

Yep Le Touquet is lovely and only an hour from Calais. Stayed there a couple of times now. A lot of the hotels are in amungst the pine forest which is lovely and then a 10 minute drive into the town which is built on a grid, full of street bars and restaurants for your evening meals.

Saint Omer is a nice place with places to visit, such as the Old Cathedral, old railway station and a few monuments and only around an hour from Calais. Can also recommend the Ibis Saint Omer Central as its only a stones throw from all the bars. Can also recommend the restaurant Chico Rail at the old railway station the food was excellent when we ate there a couple of years back

For a long weekend, Lower Normandy is a comfortable drive and lots to see and do. Was last there in June on the way back from the Dordogne.

Or Brugges of course for 'extreme' northern France......
I don’t know why but I either want to be in Holland or France - Belgium just seems to be a place in the middle that has he transversed.
Or am I being harsh?

Haven't been into Northern France since the mid eighties in the NE corner and other than Montaigne de Singes didn't find any enjoyment at all!! Back through Belgium to Holland we went as fast as the little Opel would go!! Things may have changed but take in the monkey mountain it's well worth the trip!! JIM

Lots of interesting towns and cities in Belgium like Brugges, Antwerp, Gent, Ypres Brussels etc in the west. All the Ardennes in the West.

Did a week on the Normandy / Brittany borders a couple of years ago, I highly recommend old St Malo, beautiful place its a bit further down but worth it as is Cancale and Mont Saint Michel. Bayeux is worth a visit too, apparently there's an old bit of cloth that's worth seeing

If you don't want to go too far down try Honfleur.

I went to Lille on a cheap Eurostar 3 day deal. Nice, but not stunning. Looking at the pics posted I'd say there are prettier places to go than Lille.
Very easy trip to do though from London St Pancras.
