Shock absorbers for a 2.8

It was pointed out last year at the shed that the rear shocks are the original 23 year old Sachs.
I need to replace front and back plus mounts.

However it is going to cost just over a £1000 to replace everything on a £4500 car.

Can I use cheaper shock absorbers on my 94,000 mile 2.8 or is that a false economy?

Thanks

I assume that is from our friendly local bmw specialist?. Probably a tad expensive and they usually need to import them. Shocks are consumable items so I would shop around first Rich.

Ouch. What about going down the coilover route? My Polish friends swear by MTS on BMWs as a great midrange set and I have been thinking about these for mine.

Hope that helps.

I replaced mine a DIY job, not too difficult. I paid a garage to replace the springs on the front shocks to the new ones, they charged me £10 each to do it. That’s the only difficult task and a bit dangerous.
I bought Bilstein shock absorbers and mounts from eBay for £250, but that was 2 years ago.
Might I suggest you negotiate with the Zedshed, that job would be well within their capabilities.

2nd vote for Bilstein B12 kit. Just fitted to my Zed and I'm delighted with it. Fairly straightforward diy job if you're handy with spanners. Only around £550 from Autodoc currently if you're prepared to wait a few weeks for delivery.

I’ve got BC racing BR coilovers as I was able to get them at a trade price.
I like the fact I can adjust the ride height and dampening as I didn’t know what I wanted to begin with.

I don’t think I’d buy them at full price though it just adds a level of complication.

You can get Sachs shocks from carparts4less, plus mounts and it comes in at £402 when you add the discount code.

Replaced mine with OEM Sachs front and rear. Costs are sensible, and some good deals on ebay including top mounts, dust covers.
Worth doing control arm bushes, roll bar bushes and drop links while you’re at it.
