Many of you will remember when I first bought my house that there was an illegal car port garage thing which I had to knock down. I then built a new shed in its place. Pix were in an old thread detailing everyone's garages [but can't seem to find it]. Anyway, I also had to do a lot of landscaping as my land is VERY steep and dirt could have washed down and destroyed the garage.

I built a retaining wall which you can see from the Google Maps image, put in the garage, and now and starting the second [of 4] tiers! I am quite please with the results thus far but boy I really wish I knew what I was doing! You can see the garage from higher ground above to get an idea of how much 'retaining' I have top do. Anyone feel like a holiday in Tasmania that want to help me finish?

@Cooper looking good. Just a thought too, if you stick some old tyres behind your wooden walls and put rods through the middle before back filling, it gives you a buffer zone which will not put too much stress on the timbers. It also stops the water soaking the wood from behind. The other alternative is to put landscape fabric in a v shape filled with pea shingle gravel. It aids water dispersment.

Almost sounds like I know what I am talking about . Just a few years designing lol..

Excellent idea and thanks for that! I am using some type of cloth material [forgot the proper name] behind the panels to stop the dirt from washing through and making it look bad. It will be back filled with existing dirt up to 300mm from the top of each rail and then proper topsoil will be put on top of it so we can plant a garden in there. I will effectively turn a steep dangerous slope into 75m2 of garden space!

I really like the tyres idea and will tell the wife about that now!

Ok.. Here's a tip.. Get a drainage pipe and drill small hols in it along the top and sides about a 1/3 of the way down.. Connect your landscape fabric to the back of the timber at the top.. Put a small amount of gravel down to form a flat base at the bottom of the trench. Pull the fabric down the timber and over the bottom then back up the other side. Make it loose so when you back fill it will not tear. Put some gravel in the bottom to hold the fabric down.. Place the pipe to form a drain run off. Then back fill up to near the top of the tench. Pull the fabric back over and cover with soil so it all sits neat and is hidden away. Job done. One land fill drain. Just remember to direct the water away from your garage. The pipe needs to drain to either a tank or land gully.

The weather here is absolutely perfect gentleman. Sunny and gets up to about 18 or so. Slight cool breeze the beer is cold and the food is good.
