Hi
I have a Z3 1999 1.9l M43 so just wondering how to reset the oil/service indicators.
Sorry to ask such basic questions but I don't know what an OBD1 port is and whether there is one on my car or something else?
Is there a tool for resetting such?
Thanks
Brian

The tool is not expensive. But if you get a piece of wire, turn your ignition on and put the wire into pin 7 (arrowed) of the round port in the engine bay and the other end to earth and hold it there for 10 seconds it will reset the service lights

If you contemplate buying the simple service light rest tool its probably better to spend a bit more and equip yourself with a good code reader that also resets service lights, the Creator 310+ is what I have and for circa £50 its worth having but you will need the 20pin to 16pin obd2 cable changer to use it on the Z3 by plugging into the round diagnostic socket in the engine bay as that reads all modules on the car. If you have a 16pin obd2 socket under the steering wheel that only reads the engine and transmission modules not the airbag module.

HOWEVER - be aware that the Creator 310+ does not and will not work on pre-March 1998 build date Zeds. The only thing it will communicate with is the Engine Control Module, and that’s using a 16 to 20 pin connector.
For post-March 1998 build date Zeds, just as Colb says, I understand it’s a very good bit of kit.

It's great to have your comments - so thank you very much. As I am new to this Forum and still exploring how it all works, it would be good if this experience exchange could be stored or filed somewhere so that all users can glean from this and not re-invent the wheel.

Have seen the adverts for the Creator310+ so will now splash out and get one.

Thanks again
Kind Regards
Brian

Depending on where you are, you might find a member of the forum to help out.

I personally wouldn't mind getting together with anyone around Cork, Ireland to help them out with my scan tool.
