The service lights on the Z3 don't purely go on miles but also on how hard the car is driven which is measured by the mpg so the lower the mpg the interpretation is harder the car is driven. You should be well in if you service every 6k even if driven hard.

As I understand it, the service lights will adapt to how the car is driven, if you drive hard when the car is not up to temp this shortens the mileage between the indicators, if you wait until the car is warm before driving in a spirited manner the mileage between the service indicator lights is prolonged to its max.

I change my oil and filter twice a year Dave, guess how I drive it? Having said that I religiously allow all my cars to get the temp gauge showing warm before it gets any hard work. I was told two things as an old boy (teenager) 1) Never thrash a cold engine and 2) The more you thrash a car, the more it will thrash your pocket.
Advice which I passed on to my own son and to be fair he does take notice.

I'm the same, Service twice and year and go the extra mile once a year with fuel filters and plugs etc etc.

fuel filter every second service :) i dont know if thats overkill on top of overkill? but whatever i am doing the engine loves it :)
I had a problem with my engine management light coming on then going off. After trying different garages I ended up going to a BMW specialist, who had just opened up quite close to me. I told him the data other people had found and he said straight away it was the fuel filter and I was told to try cleaning the engine out with BMW engine cleaner then use Topaz fuel with Fuchs Pro boost.

Topaz fuel has more additives in it compared to other brands and the supermarket fuels have more bioethanol it them which leads to water contamination.

I've done over 150 miles since the filter has been changed and the z3 is running so much better with Topaz and Fuchs Pro boost. And I've notice around 40 more miles out off half a tank.

The specialist also said the fuel filter should be changed ever year or 15k miles.

According to Google Topaz fuel is only available in Ireland is this true or can you get it in the UK under a different brand name ?

i was talking to a guy there the other day who was delivering fuel to a petrol station, i was asking what his octane was and why different garages differ with % levels. I told him i got Maxol all the time as it has a higher octane level and i get more out of it and the car runs better with it, he went on to explain that all of the gas stations fill from the same hub at the docs, so i pressed him as to why i get more from Maxol and he explained that there are additives added to the fuel after it gets to the station..... this make sense to anyone? im not sure whether to believe him or not??

I don't think each station carrys supplies of addative anywhere in the world. That is all done at the refineries as far as I know with different blends for each brand they produce. Over here they add certain chemicals for summer driving that differ greatly from what we get in winter. This is due to the fact that we get temps above +30c down to -40c. So I think your man was putting one over on you. JMO JIM

Or he actually believed his theory? Who knows, some guy at a filling station probably told him that as fact!! lol JIM

He was speaking the truth. Depending on the garage you visit depends on what additives you find in your fuel. Most garages use the same hubs but some garages have there own refinery's. like shell for example make and supply there own fuel.

That's what I was getting at @ Lee! They vary the addative at refining stage not at each individual service station as this guy was telling @David Cullen. Same thoughts different wording!! lol
