Seats, repair, replacement options

my Zed has done 144k and the drivers seat feels like it!

the squab is hard, the side bolster leather is splitting and the bolster foam is collapsing. both belt guides are busted.

probably nothing less than you'd expect considering the mileage, but I need to do something about them as I don't find the drivers seat particularly comfortable.

Options,

second handseats, well, most of the Zeds being broken are higher mileage, so their seats are suffering as well.

Repair existing.
local leather repair man will repair and recolour the leather but won't replace the foam.
locall trimmer will repad and recover, (for a price) but is a full recover.

Other option is replace with an aftermarket seat, maybe a pair something like this

does anyone have any experience of fitting a pair of after market seats, or maybe recommendations?
 
I think it depends on whether you are sticking with originality or not, in which case the route would be replacement seats or a proper refurbish of your own.

The ones you linked to look quite nice and I don't think they would look too out of place. You'll need to deal with the seatbelt tensioner and under seat wiring of course. Also need to work out the mounting brackets which will bump up the price as well.
 
originality would be ideal, but not essential and to be honest I don't find them particularly comfortable (note, dodgy back). It might be that refurb'ing and fitting the seat lifting mod would resolve this.

Hopefully someone at Duxford with low mileage seats will let me try theirs, or once @BMBabe (our resident seat expert) has sat in mine, she may have some ideas!

It is a beige interior, but I'd seen someone on here has black seats in beige and I thought it looked quite good.

Electrics not a problem, I'm an electronics engineer!

Looking forward to trying out the drivers seat =)) Anyone reading this that doesn't know my silly thread is probably thinking the wrong thing haahaa ;)

The foam parts are availible from bm still but if your leather has gone too a doner set or a full retrim is the best way in my opinion. If your handy do what i did and buy sports seats and renovate them yourself it amazing what you can achieve.

Did you use scuff master for your dye and treatment?
Just purchased some dye for bolster touch up and gear knob re furb :thumbsup:
 
I was in two minds weather to purchase the blow diffuser, but the sponge method seemed to do the trick. Covers any grinning dark patches very well, but I don't seem to have found a way hiding any creasing, I suppose this is just a chareteristic of leather??
 
You can get a really fine filler that you can fill them with i did some of my really heavy ones but its just natural.
You can feed it too that makes it hydrate and that helps too.

I did have mine worked on a few years ago now. As the driver bolster was showing it's age when the guy refurbed the seats he swapped over the driver and passenger seats, leaving the back rests as they were so as not to cause problems with the seat belt guide.
