Just put the seats back in the car. Connected all the electrics, then reconnected the negative battery terminal, to be able to move the seats back and forward to bolt them down.
And really annoyed as the thing I was trying to avoid has happened ....the seat belt light on the dash is permanently on.:banghead:
Will the local dealer reset it for me?? Or how easy is it to do myself?

Did @Lexybhoy sell his reset tool yesterday?

Tony.

Just looked at your model/year - is it seat belt or air bag? If the fault is rectified it is a simple reset with INPA or reset tool. INPA should show the code for which part of the system initiated fault warning.

Fairly sure it’s the seat belt. Had to disconnect the pyro when I removed the seats.
I don’t have any way of finding a fault code as I don’t have any code readers.

I have an unused reset tool that I can post for £16. It comes with the required round connector to plug into the engine bay port.

I'm in Lewes and have a laptop with INPA if you wanted to pop over tomorrow and get the light reset. We're out on the drive working on the cars tomorrow anyway. PM if you want my address, etc.

Thank you for the offer Perfectjake, I would have driven over but unfortunately I have a Sky engineer arriving at some time today to sort a line fault out. Don’t want to take the chance of not being here when he arrives.
Going to take up mrscalex offer on a reset tool as it will be a useful addition to the toolkit. ( not that I actually have a clue how to use it !)

Good investment, if no instructions with it get back here for details.

I asked the question because there are 2 separate warning lights for seat belt and air bag. Seat belt is in centre air bag bottom right

Ah! Its the one bottom right. Right next to the temp gauge
I thought that was the seat belt one !!

Is it reset the same way as the seatbelt light?

Ok that is the airbag one which is the usual one which triggers on seat out - usual suspect is wiring loom flexing.
I queried it because on your model there is not usually a seatbelt switch - although the light does go through start-up test sequence. I have reset my airbag light (1998 Z3) a number of times using INPA where it has its' own module. The airbag rest tools will work but do not tell you what caused it. I would take up @Perfectjake 's offer when you're available.

It could be that I have not left enough slack under the seats when I put them back in. ( tried to keep it all nice and tidy).
I have also had the seats going back and forward, up and down to check that everything was working.

I’ll get back under the seats and check the connections, and if needed cut a couple of the cable ties off to loosen the wires to the seat pyros.

The b800 does give you codes for the fault

Update!!!!

My fault.......the pyro cable had disconnected itself when I had put the seat forward. One cable tie too many:banghead:.

So that is what caused the airbag light to come on. Just need to get it reset. So that sorts that.

Retro fit Heated seats.......working . So that’s all sorted.

Seat motor... fitted the replacement one and was working fine..... when I checked the wiring about an hour ago moved the seat forward , no problem, checked the wiring, went to move it back ...NOTHING !!!! !
Checked the continuity through the motor and no reading....
Swore a bit, swore a bit more, looked for the cat,, now resigned to finding another one .
Can’t understand why it should have stopped working though.

All now sorted. 2nd Replacement seat motor installed. Both seats now go up,down, back and forward. ( switch was sticking which I think caused the original motor coil to burn out)
The retro fit Heated seats all installed and working. And thanks to mrscalex for supplying me with a reset tool ( along with a seat motor), I have reset the indicator light. ( once I had found the correct connector in the engine bay:bashhead:)

Thanks to all that have posted with info and advice.:thankyou:

The seat switches have quite a flimsy little white plastic piece in them that give the button its movement around the actual tiny switch lever you can't see inside. They break easily when the button is removed or in service anyway. Then the button looses it's free movement and return to centre design. So that may have been your problem.

That said the seats are fitted with a stop sensor at the back that cuts-out the seat from going too far backwards. I'm not sure how the detection works at the front or if there is any. I've done it enough times to remove seats and I think it normally stops by itself but just can't remember.
