Seat Testing

Morning Everybody

I hope this finds you all well? I have recently purchased two seats that are heated, sadly they are not good enough for a straight swap. Before I start stripping them all down I would like to try and check that the heated seat elements work, does anyone have any idea of how best to do that?

Just use a multi meter on the circuits to test for continuity there are 4 in total you need to test.
If no continuity then the said element is broken.

You can get them into the car and sit on them and run the heaters to see its heating up all over.
Swapping seats the first time is a pain but after you've done it once and know how you can get done in minutes. Just remember to tighten up the seat belt to the seat base before bolting the seat down (can't get a ratchet in it when the seat is in place...) and put thick blankets down on the sills as those seat rails can scratch bits easily.

Yeah the two heater pads have small connectors two wire you can test from that point.
I had to repair one when I fitted my sports seats 3 tested fine but the drivers lower pad had a damaged section its not hard to do and easier to test out of the car than fitting them to have remove them as they don't work. The test is a simple one

Many apologies for jumping into someone elses' thread, but do the sports seats have a heater element in the backrest/lumbar area? My seat -bases heat up alright, but it's the lower back bit I'd really like to get warm (back-ache a real pain in the a55 at times).

My drivers seat base didn't heat when I bought the car, stripped it and fixed the broken wire, but didn't notice any wiring going to the backrest. Wasn't looking for any, to be honest. Perhaps the seat'll have to come out again, easy job once you've done it once. Add that to the list, then. Lucky I really like this car.

Had the seats out to do the bushes so in and out is ok... Where was your broken wire?

Front right part of the base, just where the deep crease is. Guess someone must have knelt on it a few times. Soldered in an extra piece of wire, been fine for about three years now.

The seats have 2 pads base and back.
I used one of these pads to repair my base far more reliable than a single wire.

Looks good, was considering something like that just to be able to warm my back up. Will have to investigate why the backrest doesn't warm up and make a decision.

I brought a set of two to rwpair thw base of a ford focus seat when i uograded to sports seat i ised the other.
As they are carbon fibre and honey combed you can cut holes in them and cut them to any shape as you never break the circuit it just finds another route
