Hi All
just fitted some new seats- and have encountered a little problem.
The seat recline cable ends in a small ball, which is hooked into a plate with a cutout. The very small piece of metal that stops the cable popping out of the anchor is broken- so the cable just falls out of the anchor so i can't recline the seat.
Anyone encountered this and found a fix- i tried hot glue - didn't last 1 min!
Could i solder it?
Thanks all

Hi thanks but it's not the Bowden cable it's the tab it attached too, the small piece of bent metal has popped off. I think I might try solder or epoxy.

Oh, I don’t think you can replace that without major surgery.
Is there enough of the good half left to recreate the same pinch? Or fold downwards?

It would need to be silver solder. There’s quite a lot of metal there to conduct heat away, so unless you have a Mapp gas, or similar, micro torch to heat the area really quickly it’s likely to damage the foam.
A quick tack with a mig would work, chill it between tacks. It’s not thick steel, doesn’t need a lot of amps, I’ve fixed one before but the whole seat was stripped at the time so it was easy.
Or, a small tab bolted to the existing tab, to lock the cable in place, is the only other answer.

Thanks Iain. I don't (yet) weld. But that idea of a bolted tab sounds good. Don't suppose you could draw the idea for me . As not exactly sure what you mean. Thanks

Sure, kind of like this

couple of 3 or 4 mm holes and a small piece of steel. I wouldn’t go too big with the holes. Toolstation do cobalt drills in both 3 and 4 mm and small machine screws/nuts in both those sizes, bought some recently, I think the 4mm £1.50 for 20 😂
I would definitely go for the cobalt drill bit, so much sharper than hss.
