Are your looms different Sean ? Bmw do the conversion loom old plug to new
Yes they are mate but the harness' are over £50 each and don't really want to spend another £100 on these seats, by the way, I have just finished the drivers seat

The conversion loom is for putting a facelift seat in a pre-facelift car.

If you want to do it the other way round you need to make a harness up from the respective plugs - which don't have to be from a Z3, just a BMW of the same age and type. I bought some from an X5 seat harness to make a pre-facelift seat to facelift chassis loom. The X5 plugs went on the facelift chassis end. The seat end plus were donated off the chassis of my pre-facelift breaker.

So you get a chain that goes pre-facelift seat<--->pre-facelift chassis plug<-/splice/->X5 seat harness plug<--->facelift chassis.

@t-tony the seat on the e36 doesn't have any connectors at all, not even a tensioner as it's too old- 1995 and it's only a 318i.

I've got a similar issue on my zed where the wiring that connects to the drivers seat has been cut off and replaced with spade connectors. I honestly don't know why that was done.

Whilst we're on the subject of seats I should say that my up down function has stopped working :(

Mine is also facelift but the plugs are very different, I'm hoping the wire colours are the same, is there a wiring diagram on here somewhere
