Hi all, I'm stating to asses what needs doing on neglected Zed I picked up. After removing about a gallon of water from the drivers side footwell and a very general clean so I dont catch anything nasty, the passenger set forward/aft motor wont run. I have tried 12 volts direct to the motor via the 2 pin plug and a resistance check which shows open circuit. Of course its in the furthest back position.
is there a way to wind the seat forward to access the the rear bolts?
The seats need to come out to go forward with bringing the old girl back to life.

cheers all
Happy Zedding

I’d get a working motor, replace in situ ( awkward but possible) then use it to move the seat forward

Hi Martin,

I had the same problem a while back.

Try to raise the seat as high as it will go, then you can get to the two torx screws on either end of the front motor that hold it to the bracket. Undo these, and pull the motor forward and out . The two drive shafts will flex enough for this to happen. Make sure you mark on it which way round it goes.

Two options now....
Open up the motor by bending out the tabs, and cleaning the bushes and commutator. Bit fiddly putting it back together but doable. Then test it to see if its running again. If ok, put it back in and then you can move the seat.

If motor is burnt out, then connect two battery drills to the driveshafts , one drill on forward , and the other on reverse ( sorry cant remember which is which now ) then using them together you can move the seat forward to be able to get to the rear bolts.
You can turn the driveshafts by hand .....but it take ages !!!!!!

Hi Mazza, sound stuff thanks, just as I pressed the post I remembered I had 2 seats from my old Zed in the shed. dropped a motor off one of those & slotted it in. I'll have a look at the motor though, it's good to fix things.
