Greetings all. I'm in the process of replacing my bushings on my 98 z3m and I've got a curious little situation. I bought the car at 21k miles and it now has 35k miles.

When counting the turns taking the car off the spindle I noticed that the driver side left and right cars were in different locations on their respective spindles (7 turns for the left and 10 turns for the right). Also, the passenger seat spindles where both at 23 turns which is very different from the driver side (7 & 10). I'm inclined to install the seats exactly as they came out, but any intel on whether it's better to install the driver side spindles uneven at 7 and 10 turns or to chose one and mount it even. I wonder if this was an error from the factory or if it was mounted intentionally this way to align the angle of the seat in relationship to steering wheel or something.

The car is in very good condition and I don't believe that any work was done on the seats prior to my ownership. Thanks in advance for any help.

If the seats were aligned ok before you started then put it back as you found them would be my advice.

I agree with Col. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I don't think 3 turns difference would be enough to cause any issues.

Thanks guys. Really appreciate the helpful quick responses!

I just plugged the seats back in and the knob now functions in reverse. Back is forward and forward is back. Is this because I installed the skewers in the wrong sides?

Can you just swap the wires around at the switch so they work in the right direction?

The solution to this was to take the skewers back out and reverse them. Works well now except for the fact that now my airbag light is on. I suspect because I had to turn on the power to put the top up as rain was coming through - arghhh. It doesn't look there is an easy way to clear this.

You will need a code reader of some sort to put the Airbag light out unfortunately. You can buy them on eBay and Amazon etc. for very little.
