Does anyone know if retaining the original seat base would get round the wiring compatability problems when swapping out seats?

I have standard seats and I want to swap to sports seats. I'm planning on reupholstering the seats (looked at ma-carstyle.de wish I hadn't, but now there is no going back) and live in the Highlands, so collection from most addresses is a PITA. Likewise, delivery to the Highlands is a PITA. My seat bases and associated side control panel are like new, so I'd rather keep them anyway and these are half the weight of the seats. If I can find a pair of tatty sports seats in need of TLC for sale, Parcelforce will do delivery up to 30kg, which 2 seats will be well under without the base's. I know the wiring for heating pads will be in the seats itself but I'll probably be replacing these with new aftermarket pads anyway as I'll have the seats in bits.

I thought this seemed like a sound plan until I saw something about occupancy sensors whilst searching the forum.

Anyone tried this before?

As far as I know, the only wiring in the seats themselves is for the heated pads. The seat cushions are easy to swap over.
Paisley Freight are always worth checking for bulky items/

Thanks, sounds like I could get either pre or post face-lift seats and mount them on my bases. Pretty sure it's just the wiring connections and cover style (which will be replaced anyway) that differ between the two. I'll checkout paisley freight.

Remember that the passenger seat has an occupancy sensor.

Don you know if the connection for this differs between pre and post face-lift seats?

The occupancy sensor mat plug into a module on the seat base. www.RealOEM.com shows the mat as being the same for all models of Z3 and types of seats.

So you just plug the mat lead from the new seat into the old base.
