Which is the recognised most useful cheapo scanner, don't have a laptop to support diagnostic software. The C110 is apparently popular, any better versions out there?

Hi, ih one of these and not overly impressed, the box said 5.1 the update window says 3.1 mine doesn't read that many modules on my 1998 2.8
Try to update on internet and files not recognised
Perhaps someone else has had better luck

C110 is a good little reader. My brother has one that we use on his 1 Series. And we used to use it on his 1999 1.9 Z3.

As I've got laptops with INPA/BMW Scanner I don't really use them. But for the relatively small sum of money involved I think a C110 is a good choice.

Can't really vouch for compatibility with all ages of Z3 but I hear what @Bampz and others say about missing some of the modules. Don't know what the answer is and never likely to as I'm a facelift man myself.

Managed to update my c100+ last night took about 4hours (probably my computer skills) still only reads limited modules ,
On using my c100+ and scanner 1.4.0 both read limited modules on my 1998 Nov build 2.8 which is preface lift model and I think they will read more on the facelift models ,
Might give ipna a look at some time

I have a C110 and its always been great for sorting issues out. I also have a few apps on my iPhone with a wifi dongle connected to the adaptor. Regarding modules, I assume you have connected to the 20 pin round connector rather than the rectangle one inside the car ? A stupid thought but the internal one does not connect to all the ECU's.

Hi yes always connected to 20 pin round under the bonnet , I don't think I have one inside the car ,
Are your cars preface or facelift ?

Both facelift.. no real issues but I have had an issue connecting to an early 1.9 before.

I have BMW scanner 1.4 and to be honest its a waste of time on the prefacelift as its so limited to what modules it will read, luckily I have two guys within 100m that both have Snap-on scanners that read everything but at £4000 a go I'll just keep borrowing them :)

This is the conclusion I have come to , perhaps I need to update the car ( only joking)
Anyone know if ipna works on preface lift models

The Foxwell NT520 with BMW software looks to be very good. I don't know how it gets on with pre-facelift Z3's.
