I need to purchase a code scanner. please tell me the best one to purchase because I don’t want two by twice.
My car is sick today and I need one ASAP

My last car was a 2003 E85 Z4 3.0 Auto. what problems are you having? My scanner is a Foxwell NT530.

One week ago it was hot and steering was strange, needed to hands to drive it at about 60 mph on highway
I’ve only had this car since Jan 2022
it does have a lot of rattles and notice but it’s a sports car
I let it set for a week looking for someone to service the steering wheel
but can take it in until the 29th

now when I start it I see codes in dash
I have the battery replaced to day under warranty, my husband installed for me.
I just took it for a short ride around the block two times thinking maybe it would reset, no joy
The sound of rattle under the hood driver side , right US now sounds to me near or underneath the steering wheel

The electric steering can be troublesome on the E85 but there is a fix for when the steering becomes stiff to turn. @Lee did an article posted on Z4 Forum which tells how to adjust the steering column.

There is nothing to service, as such on the steering but this is where your mechanic should start. No parts cost involved and really no more than 1 hour labor.

ps. A new battery needs to registered to the car after 2002, which could also put out those warning lights on the dash.

Do I need the dealer to register it
or can a foreign repair shop do that
I want to go to this independent shop
appointment is the 29th
i guess i will call them on Monday and ask about that?

The independent should have a scanner to be able to register the new battery and as I said it could lose those warning lights at the same time. Have a great weekend.

i have an iCarsoft BMM V.3.
does most of the coding (battery, steering wheel etc) ans has works perfectly with my F40 and E82. (And most of the Z3 cirquits) Worth giving it a look.
