So Santa Pod is upon us.

Time to start a thread about best launch techniques for a Z at Santa pod.

Possibly different techniques based on 1.9/2.8/M models.

Bigger rear tyres will probably play a part in how many revs to use at launch?

Oh and best way not to fry the clutch.

My old 330i with the Clutch Delay Valve needed a special touch as if you teleased the clutch the with some revs sometimes it would just slip the clutch as the clutch released too slowly.

Dip the clutch, select first gear, when the light turns to green release the handbrake and pull away maintaining a steady build up of revs through the gears until you reach the end of the straight. Enjoy the experience, return and repeat! :D

So that's how you launch your Actros but I'm talking about the Z!

Handbrake....? Maybe you mean the 'drift lever'?
That's for the other side of the event, unfortunately I can't fit the extra wheels in the boot otherwise I'd have a go...

Shall we have some practice runs in Reggie to warm up?

traction control on or off?
Definitely off, if you trigger the traction control it will take a second or two to sort itself out once you have lifted off the throttle.

If I remember correctly Clarkson said " Switch off traction control, select Sport and floor it" Seems to work ok on my car!:D:cool:

We're sat talking about your villa @t-tony with the female half of our friends that we'd be meeting there. She's most excited to put it mildly! Sorry off topic!

i'm sensing you may be slightly competitive :ymdevil:
Says the man who hunts down M3's with 'daisy yellow' standard looking Z hiding big brakes, adjustable suspension and semi slicks!

Come on stop holding out, how do you do a launch then?
I tried 4,000 rpm and drop the clutch in my 330 but it just slipped. Never tried properly in the Z.

I've had plenty practice on my front wheel drive cars but that was more about stopping wheelspin.

I hear the surface is quite different on a drag strip because of all the rubber too.

Touché :) it's all about the sleepers.......

Never been on the strip, afraid I can't help, I imagine if there is plenty of rubber down you will get a different level of grip. Take your wallet, your going to need a few runs ;)

Not going down myself, but how much is it to go down?

It's a competitive bunch on here I tell you, all tight lipped and not sharing their techniques in case they get shown up....

Where is @oldcarman when you need him?
