For some time now I have been communicating with Rajaie of Beisan Systems in the states. Rajaie has spent the last couple of years developing a cure for the vanos rattle/growl on the S50B32 Double Vanos engine used in the E36 M3/M Roadster/M Coupe, and has now finally brought his fix to market along with improved replacement vanos seals made from Buna.
Rajaie, who already supplies seal kits to Dr Vanos in the states has asked if I would help spread the word about his new vanos rattle fix.

Details of all Beisan products and also procedures for DIY fitting can be found at the links below:

Please spread the word around the various forums to fellow ///M owners, Rajaie is a very knowledgeable guy and always happy to help. You can contact him via his website where he also runs a vanos forum.

Cheers
Ade :coolsteer)

Wow just spent last 1.5 hours reading that and sounds like a very doable DIY job if done methodically and certainly alot cheaper than going down Mr Vanos route. Something to consider doing over winter methinks. :-?

Its a very impressive write up of the fitting procedure. I'm almost sorry to no longer have a Vanos to try this on ;)

You can come round and help me do mine when I get round to it Mark ;) but yes it is a very impressive writeup and after reading the majority of it last night I see it as a challenge to do this myself over winter when I can take my time once it is off the road in hibernation.

I know waht you mean Swamper but I have tackled far more complex things in my job but as it is your own you always have the niggle if it goes wrong there is a big bill waiting at the end of it. I am certain I will tackle this at some point just need to get all the other stuff done first (suspension!!).

In the writeup it says the vanos gear refurb takes about an hour but I suspect it will take at least that to get to them beforehand so probably about 3 hours total taking your time.

Turning the key for the first time will probably be nerve wrecking yes but I would check, double check and then check at least another dozen times before I would let it fire up we will see when the time comes.

Oh no. I'm really worried. Should I? Shouldn't I? What's the worst that could happen?

Nothing - if you follow these instructions...

Hopefully these videos will help you decide if you want to take on the dreaded rattle or poor performance.

It will cost you around £150 to get it sorted if you DIY. Now that I know what I'm doing, I could do the full repair in a long day.

You should still read the Beisan instructions (Seal Replacement and Rattle Procedure) before you attempt the repair, but I'd also advise you to view my videos as well. Also read the BMW TIS if you have access to it.

More details, including a list of all the parts needed, are available here.

There are linked videos within the videos and I'm not sure how the YouTube viewer will handle them, so I've included the links so you can go directly to the source if it all goes wrong :) ....

£150 for the repair kit? Jesus Mr Vanos makes a lot of money charging £834 :nailbiting:
And I can't get hold of him :(
@Mnbrennan £150 is cheaper if you are brave enough to give mine ago :nailbiting:

That's too bad Stacey, surely there's someone willing to give it a crack. Good luck, JIM
As fellow Zedders have told me it's not worth the risk if it goes wrong
I have been told it can cause more damage :nailbiting:
