The Z3 has recently returned from it's annual service with a glowing report from the independent mechanic I use.

Apparently it still has it's original brake lines and is the cleanest 'S' reg he has ever worked on.

Granted it's only done just over 52,000 and had been well cared for before coming to me earlier this year.

Anyway to maintain the condition I'm considering getting it rustproofed and without access to a ramp or the necessary skills I was thinking of using a 3rd party company.

So I'd be keen to get the views of any members who have done the same and would welcome any recommendations of companies in or around Yorkshire as I'm based on Sheffield

I used Lanoguard early this year on my Zed. As long as you can raise the car enough for axle stands it is easy to spray the underside with their spray attachment. It goes on very easy and still looks good. Will use again before next summer. They are an easy company to deal with also. Have a look at the website. Recommended.

Lots of people recommend Lanoguard but it needs reapplying every year.
I personally swear by waxoyl having seen the results on my son's 2008 Ford Ka which is similarly complimented by the MOT tester every year for it's unicorn condition and lack of rust.

Thing with waxoyl is that it's apply'n'forget - no need to regularly reapply.

That sounds ideal - are you aware of any companies offering an application service?

I just rented a ramp and did it myself.
Like the sound of that - I will have to subject myself to intensive stream of YouTube content to improve my DIY skills.

Failing that I'll just have to find a company that offers an application service

I have a problem with a product that requires redoing every year..sounds ridiculous TBH..I bet they could make something slightly thicker if they wanted to that would last a lot longer!

From the tinter-web. Never heard of it before but worth a look.

Waxoyl V Dinitrol

  • Waxoyl is a wax type and Dinitrol is a grease type of treatment. The wax type of treatment has white spirit as the carrier and the grease type of treatment has mineral oil as the carrier. It will come down to personal choice which one you chose for your vehicle.
  • Dinitrol will get into the nooks and crevices of the vehicles bodywork to give good rust prevention. It also has a rust inhibitor to counteract any surface that the rust encounters giving you a good rust prevention.
  • Waxoyl is an oil and water mix and therefore it will never cure. So hot days it will continue to drip out of any of the holes it was applied to on your vehicle. It will also give out odour from the oil.
  • There is also no smell from this application of Dinitrol as the solvents are aromatic. When the wax and solvent vanish, it leaves only the wax. This will expand according to the temperatures.
  • Dinitrol also leaves a skin when applied onto your vehicle and stays soft underneath it allowing it to self-heal in temperatures that it is subjected to. This means that it will self-heal over small stone chips and scratches too.
  • Dinitrol is far easier to apply than Waxoyl as it has been shown that Waxoyl can be affected by the changing weather.
  • In a report that was carried out it showed that Waxoyl doesn’t seem to penetrate any significant amounts of rust whereas Dinitrol did fill in those gaps.
