I've just fitted a set of 16" BMW style 104 wheels with Potenza runflats that I bought on Ebay and I've driven just over 1000 miles over the last 2 weekends and to be honest, I can't see why so many people don't like them.

hit a rut in the road watch the steering wheel snatch out of your hand and you get the idea, runflats are good for pottering around and good roads if you can find them, driving sporty noooooooooo,

@Jack Ratt, I think the size of your rims has a lot to do with the difference in feel. As you go up in size you lose sidewall depth and that translates into rougher rides. JIM

Agree Jim, our Z4 is on 18" rims and is a very rough ride.

We changed to Falcon 453s to give a slightly softer ride on MSport suspension and 18" wheels. We carry a bottle of Holts tyreweld and a small compressor in the boot. Road noise is slightly decreased as a bonus. No problems over the past 10k miles.

We have used the Tyreweld on another car (Not ours) and it seemed to work well, so not sure any truth in the rumour that it ruins the tyre!!

I think that the story that it ruins the tyre is perpetuated by tyre sellers who have neither the means or the inclination to clean the crap out of a tyre to plug it.It really is horrible stuff to mess with, I know.:(

got them fitted not been to far but you can tell the difference ride is better, more normal, that gives you more confidence to drive it as it was ment for, so it gives you more enjoyment will know more when i go for a run tomorrow, one thing that was worrying, given i changed the tyres because for me they spoiled a good car, was when the tyre guys took the runflats of they said they were unsafe and the rear one should have had a blow out, as some one in the past had run it flat and damaged the inside wall, as they said it is not uncommon to see this as people do not know they are flat, and yes we all know we should check pressure but the more cars go for longer service intervals the less we check,

We also rely far too much on the electrics to warn us of impending problems and some times they don't.

I had exactly this and the moronic tyre pressure system was of no use whatsoever. Only reason I figured the pressure was low was when I booted it off a roundabout and the back end tried to break. The car had felt a bit strange for a day or so, but it didn't occur to me it could be a puncture. Took it to a tyre centre and there was a screw in it, and the tyre was knackered from being driven on for too long.

Too much technology in cars. I don't like run flats for this very reason, they can end up being more dangerous simply because we have blind faith in them.:(

So you actually screwed up the tyre? and now you've fallen in love with two sets of wheels? Just be carefull one doesn't find out the other love in your life and you'll be okay! JIM

been for a good run today over all types of roads, well there is a massive difference, even the wife could tell from the passenger seat, tried it at cruising and at speeds its meant for;) we can now listen a cd all the way through with out it jumping, its not that the new tyres are so good it is how it supposed to be, it really high lights how poor run flats are they are defiantly not a tyre for me to the point if i was to buy another car and it had runflats i would not buy it, i changed these because it totally ruined the drive for me i thought was to buy new and sell the runflats to get some of my cost back, but having been shown the inside they were deemed as unsafe, so no way would i pass them on to someone else, loads of tread left on as well, so it begs the question as how say are they.

@phil.a , you seem to have proved the point about run-flats, I've been following this thread with the intention of changing them on our 4. Just interested what size rims are you running on?

We rely on technology too much, sometimes to our detriment. What the eye doesn't see .........
