Left Loch Kyle this morning at 09:00hrs, 7hrs and 311m drive home. 230 miles to go, right at the top of Glenn Coe following @Jjim (broken rear right spring on his Zed) when bosh! Sideways almost with full opposite lock on! Interesting so pulled over to check (tyres and pants), rear right was flat :arghh: pants were clean  Elected to Plod on the 30 miles or so to the Green Welly and Oh how me and James laughed ........ cracked rear right alloy, bugger :arghh: Space saver to the rescue, 190 miles to go at 50 mph :arghh: On the up side, 43 MPG, every cloud  I do believe I flashed every truck in the UK in on the M8, M74 and M6, oh the shame 😥 That aside, the space saver did its job and got me home :scorecard:

Shame mate, Scotland seems to take its toll in wheels :(
At least you’re home.

Couldn’t resist one of Bella with her baby wheel

That looks bad Andy. How does an alloy crack?

And Jim’s broken rear spring?
You two had an eventful Scottish cruise. Sorry to read about these mishaps but the positive thing is you are both ok.

Single track roads and potholes mainly.

Ouch ! Not fun . . .

I've never considered a space saver (but after this maybe I should!). Its not the space it takes up in the boot, but the space the normal wheel takes up in the boot if you have to change it. Where does your luggage go . . . Aaah ! Compliant passenger !

But seriously, glad all okay . . .

Mine won't fit in the boot so either on the C-in-C's lap (passenger seat if I'm on my tod) or leave it by the road. If I'd have been on normal tyres I was more remote than a remote thing with no phone signal I'd be walking for 30 miles if it wasn't for my space saver. Life savers.

Hmm you've got me thinking about refitting my carrier and spare wheel, it's still in the shed some where.
A can of tyre weld is no good on a cracked wheel.....obs.

I would mate, plus a can of tyre weld won't always save the day.

I have often thought of the problem of what to do with the wheel if you are on a long trip with a passenger and fully loaded with luggage. I now keep a microfibre towel and a set of Thule luggage straps in the boot, you lay the towel on the boot and secure the wheel with the straps. I have only tried it with a spare space saver which I have got but it seems to work.
