i was at one of my customers the other day and they showed me to a warehouse in which sat 10 Merlin engines

i couldnt believe it ... i asked them how much ... they wouldnt say.

I was told by a local guy who has a barn full of military vehicles that there are rumours that there are a number of merlin engines buried in a field on an old WWII airfield near here. They were buried still in packing cases, if it is true, at the end of the war simply so they didn't have to dispose of them.
I don't think anyone is going to go searching for them though - the airfield is now an army barracks and in constant use. Might attract some the locals who come armed ready for 'a discussion...'

Great noise but they sound better at full throttle. :)

I was on the jib of a dockside crane today in Pompey naval base and we had a fly passed by a Spitfire.

Doubt if it was much more than a couple of thousand feet above the water.

Don't whether they are the twin cockpit trainer Spits or the original aeroplanes
