There's very old threads about this on "other" bm forum but couldn't find a definitive answer on this one. There was some confusion on the other forum because people answering were talking about a digital clock with trip computer? Average fuel consumption etc?

My PreFacelift (unless I'm mistaken) just has a very basic digital clock. Just tells the time. So no trip computer or anything.

I want to replace that with the round clock from facelift. The one that sits in the middle below the heater controls.

I've got the plastic panel, with round clock. I haven't tried anything yet but, if I'm not mistaken, the plug/connectors are different.

One of the posts I read somewhere talked about cutting and joining wires. But another post said that the plugs for both types of clock are under the centre console.

Anyone know if both types of wiring/plug are there?

Thanks

All i can say that may or may not help is on my face-lift ( round clock)
I replaced the clock wth the obc.
The clock and obc use different plugs but both lurking behind centre console.
There is a fair chance your plug could be there i know the pre and face-lift obc are essentially same unit with different front face so hopefully your clock issue is similar.
Stephen.

Thats useful info… as my computer/digital clock unit doesn’t work…. If there is a plug for a round analog clock option in there then thats what I’ll fit … I’d prefer that option.

The switch to go through the various OBC modes on your clock is on the end of the left hand stalk of the steering wheel. Are you sure you don’t have this?
Gives time, fuel consumption, distance to empty, outside temp, average speed, iirc

Is this such an uncommon option then?

Just tells the time.

I just looked in the user manual for my car and see that BC was indeed an option. I never knew that. Can't say I missed it.

With the top down the temp outside the car was roughly the same as it was inside . . .

And I could estimate my average speed by the size of my smile.

As I had nothing to do this morning after painting a radiator at 4am in the garage.......l sat in the car to look at the wiring for the OBC and Analog clock.....the OBC has a plug with 12 wires and the clock has 3......
So pulled a few bits off the car

I had written on all the wires when it was out and on one I put a question mark....and it turns out that that one is the clock.
Colours match with circuit diagram.

One does get carried away with pulling bits off the car....

There is a bunch of others that are not used but none of those has 3 wires.
The radio was not set in anyway so easy to disconnect and move out the way....but getting the OBC out was a nightmare...and a painful experience....
I have one of those camera thingys, so located where the two screws were and by moving the heater control pod out of the way could get a small screwdriver in and got them undone.....No frigging idea how I will get them back:whistle: Assuming the clock is held in the same way.....

But this explains why the OBC was not functioning... it appears not to have the connector strip that links the pcb to the display......

So it will stay like this till I have a clock to go in.....Not putting an OBC in as they have to be coded apparently....and that sounds way too complicated.......=))

Manual says about coding but from what i can see this only applies to new units doesn't affect retrofit of 2nd hand units.

@Duncodin your square clock is the pre face-lift standard fit on lower spec cars obc is an upgrade or optional extra depending on model and upgrades fitted.
Stephen.
Also while on the info stuff the pre face-lift square obc and the round face-lift obc are the same unit just front plastic surround that is different

What you can do is Calibrate the MPG.
I went the wrong way and averaged 87mpg for awhile 🤣🤣
On the lowest setting it says around 34mpg which I think is optimistic.,
I did read that 1.9 and 2.8 obc had different part numbers so it could be I bought the wrong replacement obc 🤷🏼‍♂️

Hi I upgraded my centre to a round clock face lift. I'll try and find some photos. From memory the connectors where diffent but the wire colours where the same and I got it all working fine. Basically just joined similar wires together!
