Been scratching my head about this one for a while. Cannot get my manual roof to close . Replaced rear dampers ( thanks Lee for the advice). Had to remove the wind deflector, it all got a bit Flanders’s and Swann gas man cometh. Have not replaced the wind deflector yet. Roof appears to have moved about two centimetres to port. Any clues on what to do to fix.

My manual Z3 roof is dead simple, undo the windscreen latches and push back. Not so our E36 convertible with full auto roof with three motors (that have to be disconnected to operate manually) and a variety of sensors.
Are you sure yours is a manual roof, not semi auto in manual mode? If a true manual, my guess is the frame is bent/seized in some way. Where are you based?

It is a completely manual roof.
Should be fairly straight forward to see what is snagging. Does it move at all from the down position? Might be worth lubricating all the pivots and looking for obvious failings/any trapped webbing. Good luck!!
