roll hoops

The floor pan was prepared to receive bolt-in hoop mounts in 1/97. If the car is older than that, the mounts will need to be welded to the floor.
The hoop kit has not been available for years. The mounts were part of the hoop kit, and were not available separately.
If your car had hoops and lost them, you may still have the mounts on the floor. If your car never had hoops, you will need mounts to install them.
When you take the hoops off the junked car, you should also take the mounts, whether you need them or not. They are valuable because there are liberated hoops out there with no mounts.

If your car is late 97 on it will have the two outer hoop stanchions welded in place, you can check this by removing the plastic turrets, if there is a tube directly underneath, then you have the ability to fit roll hoops. If not then as vintage says, these will have to be welded in, you could possibly get them cut out the donor car.

If you do have them, then great, but you will need the inner stanchions, which are black bolt in items, you will also need all the plastic trim from the back as well including any brackets and screws, as the roll hoop storage box is smaller, if you have this included in your £150 then bargain.

I suppose your 1998 floor pan is prepped for the mounts or legs, but if you don't see them, I doubt they are there. They would not have been installed with no hoops in them. So they will need to be installed.

I have read before that you have to remove the foam as that is standard BMW sound proofing, they should be there.

Sorry Dave, forgot to mention about the foam, take the turret and foam off complete and if they are there you will see them, the tubes will be body colour as in the picture below:

It is the black inner one you won't have, and it is the prep for these that won't be there if an early car, I.e. No bolt holes, but easy fix with a drill and some rivnuts, or as above welding, just make sure you get the black bracket from the scrappy, and all bolts.

job done today, weather stayed off just long enough, just ran in to one problem, that was the passo seat was jammed and wouldn't move forward so that made things a bit tricky.... on the plus side the speakers in the new plastic were bigger and hertz :-)
very happy with how they turned out and was well worth the effort :-)
