Not sure if I like them or not. Opinions..?
I have the OEM ones and I like them for a few reasons.
1. If I'm sliding along the road upside down, then not using me head as a brake seems sensible. Seriously though, just gives a feeling of safety that they are there.
2. Gives you somewhere to hang a wind deflector.
3. They are not that bad looking for wind deflectors. I personally don't like chrome so the black ones blend in quite nicely.
I have a wind deflector which is good. Key type, I think OEM. I wouldn't swap them for roll hoops, but I do think they look nice and if i didn't have the deflector, i would consider it.
I am sure they will help..........
4. Stiffens up the rear of the car.
Oh yes, I remember someone saying that before. They had none fitted, then bought the chrome ones from eBay (those where the hoops are joined by a bar across the rear bulkhead).
This style if I remember correctly. More for looks than any real safety value.

OEM for me, fancied chrome ones in the past but they would have to be ACZ ones and they are way too expensive to contemplate.
Road going Z3 roadsters simply DO NOT require stiffening. Anyone driving on the road that hard, really shouldn't be. I suggest if in any doubt, get the Aviva drivers app. Run around like that for a month and see what score the insurer gives you...

Track going Z3, different story
Just turning the key is enough for an insurer to mark you down, and to be honest sitting in a locked garage will get you a ow score, as the insurer will be covering his bets on a freak earth quake swallowing the garage.
Best leave that app alone and keep telling the insurers you are a careful single mum of 89 with no job and no commute............
Gaz it was probably me, these things are made of a good grade of stainless and are very stiff, they certainly did stiffen the back up as does the brace up front, I ave bought the oem ones now, so will be able to do a comparison, once I have done my subwoofer mod.
It is a good job we are all different as I do not agree with this , there is nothing wrong in wanting a car to feel, behave (or look) in a certain manner. I certainly do not go hooning around everywhere but in the area where I live I do enjoy driving my Z on mainly A roads (national 60mph speed limit applies) which allows you to travel at a decent speed without being reckless. Having a car that handles well and is a pleasure to drive makes me smile every time .
I had a 1.9 previous to the car I have now which did not have the roll hoops as standard, after searching for months for OEM parts I finally fitted them and they really did make a difference in the way the car drove, the car felt more solid and predictable.

Total respect for your post and your findings. When you say predictable, do you mean in terms of feeling when the back end will break free, or when it will regain traction or something else entirely?
Well thats two that are feeling the Placebo Effect.........................no roll hoops, car feels wobbly (excess body roll) at xxmph round a traffic island, and with them fitted, i can now go around the traffic island at 10mph faster without wobbly bobbly feeling kicking in (faster with previous joined stainless versions though)............i like the Placebo effect........
Did you fit a strut brace at the same time or were you able to discern the individual merits of each?
Do you think I can sell an OEM wind deflector and get enough to cover most of the cost of a (used) stiffy hoop set? I'm all in favour of a firm rear and if it significantly improves handling and feel at sensible speed, I'll eat my hat willingly and join the church of enlightenment.

If its the wind deflector for oem hoops then I will swap it for some stiff stiff polished joined in the middle hoops gladly and welcome you to the church with open arms brother loz.............
To be honest I couldn't tell the difference as since fitting the ss hoops I also fitted the H and R anti roll bars and IMHO is the single biggest and best mod you can do......
It may be a placebo, but it sure makes me fell better about driving the car, I have been know to pop to the track once or twice and certainly feels like I have a planted back end
