Rod Knock? Bad Vanos?

Hi all I have a 2000 2.3 Z3 Roadster 112k Miles. Over the past few weeks I have noticed a slight ticking noise nothing too bad but it was noticeable. Well last night I go to start up my car and I am presented with loud knocking that increased when I revved my car up. I am hoping it is not a thrown bearing etc maybe Vanos? What are you guys thinking?

Before I replaced my Vanos I would get a ticking noise that gradually got worse ( I wasn't driving it just starting it up to move it in and out of the garage) The final noise before I changed it all sounded like someone was smacking something against the engine when I revved it. I bought the full kit from X8R including all the bearings and rebuilt the vanos. Very easy job to do once the Vanos is off and I managed to do mine without taking the fan coupling or shroud off. The instructions that come with the kit are pretty precise as well. Once done the noise went so pretty confident mine was the Vanos

Thank you for the advice I will be ordering that kit soon… I am pretty sure it is my Vanos as my oil has no metal shavings in it and the noise it’s only really noticeable at start up!
