Watched it on YouTube, amazing to see the detailed launch data and the clarity of the camera feeds. Then to see that the 1st launcher stage had managed to land back on the deck of ship was very impressive.

Back in 1992 when I took the family, including my parents & in-laws to Kissimmee, staying in a mate's large property, we all went to see an Atlantis Shuttle launch from a few miles away from Cape Canaveral. That was truly amazing thing to witness.

We went to the Kennedy Space Centre as kids and saw one of the Space Shuttles launch. Was amazing. And I remember that was then when I wanted to be an astronaut. I remember getting the dried food they had in sealed pouches, can still remember the taste now. It may have even been the Shuttle in 1992 that Pete mentioned above as that was around about the time we went and I'm sure we watched it from Cape Canaveral. Maybe @gookah can remember when it was?

They make it look so relaxed and easy.
So, if Elon Musk can beat the likes of Boeing and McDonnell Douglas in space, do you want to bet against him beating the likes of Ford and GM on the ground?
It would not surprise me although Ford and GM are well financed by the US Govt. since 2008.

There was 8 shuttle launches in 1992 - the Atlantis one we watched was on 31st July 1992. Columbia, Endeavour, Atlantis & Discovery all made 2 flights each in that year.

They said that they both got 7 hours sleep during the flight. Something I have never managed on a Boeing 747. But I suppose they didn't have someone wanting to sell them Fags and Perfume .................
